Donn Parker Computer Security
Seminar
The Donn Parker Computer Security Seminar which was held at the Philippine
Plaza was sponsored by SEA with a local professional lecturer group, International
Speakers Bureau. The seminar's aims were to discuss how to avoid computer
crimes, how they are perpetuated, and how they are to be detected and
remedied. The two-day seminar was attended by various sectors: private
banks, government corporations such as the National Computer Center, and
the United States Naval Base, to name but a few.
Value Analysis/Value Engineering
Seminar
This seminar package was developed with the objective of imparting to
the participants the value of VA/VE, a time-tested technique for the prevention
of cost and as a defense against the erosion of profits triggered by inflation,
by the scarcity of foreign exchange, by increased labor costs, and by
spiraling costs.
Materials Management Seminar
This is an extensive 30-hour seminar designed to obtain for the participant
a deeper understanding of the new concept of "conception-to-oblivion"
control over materials in the centralized materials management system.
This seminar is a must for Materials Managers, Chief Accountants,
Purchasing Managers, Production Managers, and Management Information Systems
Managers in the mining, trading, manufacturing and service industries.
Paperwork Cost Reduction Program
This 20-hour seminar-workshop is an analytical approach to the prevention
of costs, it is designed to totally eliminate unnecessary expenses through
effective management of paperwork. Target participants are key managers,
supervisors and those who are in direct control of, or responsible for,
developing effective paperwork systems directed towards reducing costs
and increasing productivity, thereby improving profitability.
Survival Strategies For The Small
Firms
This seminar offering was developed and intended for the small firms which
were finding it increasingly difficult not merely to maintain their profitability
but to survive due to shrinking markets, high interest rates, rising operating
costs, intense competition, raw materials shortages, and restrictive government
regulations.
This was also designed not only to help the owner or manager ensure the
company's survival but also to show him how to maintain profitability
and even boost growth by the advantages and opportunities available to
small companies only. Major topics covered in the seminar were problems
affecting the small firms in areas such as production, marketing, and
finance.
How to Ensure The Viability of
Agribusiness Ventures
This seminar's unique offering focused on the operational variables required
in making agribusiness ventures viable. This is an extensive 15-hour seminar,
the approach of which centered on: (a) entry perspective of agribusiness
(b) various problems and opportunities in the respective sectors; and
(c) operational success variables (discussions of various management and
operational factors). Topics included were poultry, livestock, crops,
aquaculture, and financing.
Exports of Gifts and Houseware
(Handicrafts)
A comprehensive 15-hour seminar covering organization, financing, marketing,
and production aspects of exporting gifts and houseware (handicrafts)
products believed to be one of the country's "sunrise" industries.
Among the products covered in the seminar are: gifts and houseware items
like linens, bags and handbags, toys and games, lamps and lampshades,
fashion accessories, Christmas decorations, imitation jewelry, picture
frames, bathshop, ceramics, stationery, wall coverings and other accessories.
The intensive seminar provides guidance on selecting and developing product
and market, finding buyers, sourcing systems and the management of raw
materials and supplies, basic production concepts for cost control, quality
control, and on-time delivery, funding, pricing, and promotions.
Bank Accounting and Operations
Control
The 15-hour seminar, aside from discussing the standard bank accounting
system, presents accounting as a management tool. It shows the use of
accounting data for:
- Forward-planning and decision-making
- Early Warning System or operations control
- Error detection and prevention of frauds
- Basic inputs for efficient management information system
Effective Report Writing for Auditors
This seminar-workshop is designed to provide participants the working
knowledge on how to write effective audit reports. It also aims to: (a)
instill in their minds the importance of having the right "attitude"
as a precondition of improving their abilities to write effective audit
reports; and, (b) develop their basic "skills" in applying the
techniques and guidelines for effective report writing.
Finance for Non-Finance Managers
This program is designed to provide participants with sufficient working
knowledge of financial concepts and techniques to enable them:
- to relate finance to their own respective areas of
operations; and determine the financial implications of their management
decisions;
- to assess the desirability of alternative policies
and decide more intelligently on the financial needs of their departments;
- to justify policy recommendations and fund requests;
- to understand and evaluate the impact of management
decisions as summarized in financial reports and statements; and
- to understand their role in the preparation and implementation
of budgets or business plans and how these are used in the evaluation
of departmental performance.
Project Evaluation
The Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises (GFSME) commissioned
SEA to conduct seminars for officers of GFSME accredited banks on evaluation
of agri-business projects. The program's objective was to provide the
participants with a working knowledge on financial and management tools
used in evaluating such projects.
Project Monitoring and Management
As a follow-through to the Project Evaluation seminar, GFSME again contracted
SEA to train officers of their accredited banks on the management and
monitoring of agribusiness projects.
The program was designed to enable the participants to effectively
measure the progress of agribusiness projects against established plans
and expected results. Various financial and non-financial techniques were
introduced in the seminar.
Effective Written Communication
for Business
The seminar-workshop is designed to enhance the participant's written
communication skills. Specifically, it will train the participants to:
analyze their audience and address them accordingly; write concise sentences
detailing the purpose of their report, memo or letter; construct an outline
appropriate for both the audience and the stated purpose; and, compose
a report, memo, or letter that is accurate, brief and clear, logically
organized, free of mechanical errors, and is readable.
Financial Management in Business
Operations
The seminar aims to acquaint managers with finance as a tool which they
can use in the formulation of their strategies be it in areas of marketing,
production, purchasing, personnel and administration. It is also designed
to provide participants with sufficient knowledge of financing enough
for them to relate their decisions to its financial consequences in business
operations.
Industry Analysis for Business
Policy and Planning
Techniques for analyzing industries in different environments and various
methodologies for formulating strategies are highlighted in this seminar
and a briefing on the state of Philippine industry and case discussions
for selected industries are also made.
Essentials of Methods, Systems
and Procedures for Banks
The basic objective of the course is to provide the participants with
sufficient working knowledge on this new disciplinary field, enough for
them to understand and apply the concepts and techniques learned in the
seminar.
Managerial Development Program
The program focuses on the objective of keeping the managers abreast with
the latest development in the field of management. Some of the topics
covered are management planning for dynamic changes, transactional analysis
for executives, corporate culture analysis and development, management-labor
relations development, and problem analysis and decision-making.
An Introduction to Corporate Planning
This program is designed to provide the participants with a conceptual
framework for corporate planning. The focus will be on the concepts and
elements of corporate planning, the analytical techniques that can be
employed, and the issues and problems that can be encountered in initiating
and maintaining a corporate planning system.
Financial Management in Agribusiness
Operations
Because agribusiness has been considered by many to be the antidote to
our country's economic ills, this program has been formulated to provide
participants with a working knowledge of financial management as applied
to agribusiness. Topics covered in this seminar are basic finance for
agribusiness projects and financial management tools and techniques in
agribusiness.
Export Marketing for Small and
Medium Scale Industries
A program, which aims to help small and medium scale business/entrepreneurs,
tap the export market. Components of export marketing strategies are thoroughly
discussed in the seminar.
Zero-Base Budgeting
This is a 15-hour skills-oriented course. It has been designed for participants
to acquire working skills on how to design, install, and implement Zero-Base
Budgeting (ZBB). The course presents a comprehensive but practical approach
to applying the concept, principles, and mechanics of ZBB. Also, it describes
in detail how organizations can adopt and/or adapt ZBB to suit their requirements.
Problem Solving and Decision Making
This course is designed to prepare managers how to analyze, minimize and
possibly prevent problems through the scientific approaches of potential-problem
analysis, further enhancing the manager’s skills in decision making.
Financial Planning and Budgetary
Control for Management
Financial Planning and Budgeting are indispensable tools of managers in
all successful corporations. This is because, these two tools:
- formalize the responsibilities of managers within
an organization which in effect compels them to think ahead; and
- aid them in coordinating their efforts, which result
in the harmony of objectives within an organization.
Human Resource Management
The module is designed for managers to provide them with the knowledge,
skills and attitudes on the effective methods of managing the human resource
into an effective company asset.
The emphasis of the module is on the ability to conceptualize and implement
the training needs of the human resource to blend with the corporate objective.
Public Market Administration
This seminar/workshop aims to improve the administration, management and
technical skills of local government officials and functionaries in public
market administration.
Specifically, the seminar/workshop is conducted to provide
the participants a clear understanding of the roles of Public Enterprise
in pursuit of a self-reliant and self-governing community; to define the
scope, components and competency requirements in managing a public market;
to assess critically and define concrete measures that will improve the
different aspects (i.e., facility requirements, food handling and sanitation,
waste collection and disposal, financial management, etc.) of public market
management; and to formulate and implement a Public Market Management
Improvement Program.

1. Basic Supervisory Development Course
The 30-hour seminar aims to sharpen the participants' management skills
in order to maximize organizational productivity. It presents the field
of management by analyzing its functions (planning, organizing, leading
and controlling) as well as its principles and concepts.
2. Productivity Improvement Program
The 30-hour program, presents the real meaning of productivity, its importance
to the organization, and how it can be improved through better utilization
of men, materials, and machines. It aims to give the participants a working
knowledge of the tools and techniques for productivity improvement, which
could be applied in their respective jobs.
3. Effective Supervision Through Effective Communication
The seminar, which is for 30 hours, focuses on the basic concepts and
techniques of effective oral and written communication. It aims to instill
in the participants the ability to use communication as a tool in effective
supervision. Some of the major topics covered are: communication process,
barriers to effective communication, communication tools, and effective
report writing.
4. Effective Time and Information Management
The 30-hour seminar's objective is to provide the participants
with the necessary tools and techniques for efficient and effective management
of time. Some of the major topics of the program are: formulation of time
management work plan; time and effort allocation; coping with time wasters;
paperwork problem; and information management.
5. Advance Supervisory Development Course
This program is intended to open up a new venue of "awareness",
that will provide the manager/supervisor a new horizon in interpreting
some of the intricacies around him and within him, and to increase his
creative operational productivity.
6. Productivity Through Effective Human Relations
The 30-hour seminar was designed to enhance and improve
human relations in the work setting, particularly between supervisors,
employees, and clients/customers, thereby increasing productivity of the
individual worker. The program's major objectives are:
a. to keep managers/supervisors abreast with the latest
researches/developments in the major areas of management functions;
b. to develop and/or enhance management skills, thereby
making him productive and more effective in the performance of his functions;
and
c. to develop in him the "creativity" that can
be nurtured further as he faces the intricacies of managing.
7. Profit Improvement Through Effective Materials Management
This 30-hour program has been designed to give the participants a deeper
understanding of the role of materials and the scope of materials management.
It also highlights the importance of purchasing, inventory control, warehousing,
and management of surplus and scrap for profit improvement. This course
would be of interest not only to Materials Managers and Supervisors but
also to other management staff and personnel who, although not directly
involved with materials, may be concerned with it in other ways. Departments
such as Finance/Accounting, Operations, Purchasing, Production, and Marketing
would have an important stake in effective materials management.
8. Trainors Training Program
This is a 40-hour program designed to develop, enhance,
and uplift the skills of trainors/instructors in the areas of curriculum
development, training methodology, and actual instructional skills.
At the end of the program, the participants are expected
to be able to:

teaching;
